British Combat Karate Association
This is the association to which Holistic Karate belongs. After nearly 23 successful years of service to the self-defence and mixed martial arts community through the British Combat Association (BCA), Peter Consterdine 9th Dan and Geoff Thompson 8th Dan launched a new sister association to cater specifically for the interests of the UK Karateka. This is the British Combat Karate Association (BCKA), which provides a ‘home’ for traditional Karate of all styles, freestyle, sports and the more ‘combat’ (jutsu) oriented club or group.
The UK’s premier multi-style martial arts organisation, focused on the reality of personal combat. With one of the most efficient administrations of all organisations, a home to nearly every martial art and led by two of the world’s acknowledged experts in self-protection and personal combat. The BCA is still at the forefront of promoting quality martial arts and it’s leading role in Close Quarter Combat (CQC).
Local club practicing Wing Chun & Choy Lay Fut styles of Kung Fu. It’s instructor, Sifu Keith McKay Cormack is a long standing friend of Holistic Karate instructor Charlie Wildish and they regularly train together exchanging ideas.

Sensei Iain Abernethy is one of the top instructors of the British Combat Association, the World Combat Association and the British Combat Karate Association. He has authored numerous books and DVD’s and is recognised as one of the Worlds leading authorities on the practical application of Karate.
Experienced in many systems of martial arts and training in multiple styles before the term “Mixed Martial Arts” became popular; Kevin O’Hagan is one the Worlds best instructors in Reality Based Martial Arts. He is part of the British Combat Association and his main style is Combat JuJutsu. He is based in Bristol and Sensei Charlie Wildish has trained on a number of his seminars.
Local Tae Kwon Do school, part of the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA). Covers sport, reality based martial arts and are good at applied applications to their patterns (kata).
A very rare Norwegian martial art going all the way back to the Vikings. However, their instructor Graham Butcher keeps himself up to date with modern Reality Based Martial Arts and is a knowledgeable and interesting teacher.
Based on the Shotokai style of Karate, this school has branches in Bristol, Keynsham and Bath. They have a very open-minded and practical approach and are an exceptionally nice and friendly bunch of people.

Part of the BCKA, this Goju Ryu based Karate school is based in Oxfordshire. Often meet them on the seminar circuit as they are open-minded and willing to learn from any valid source.
